Watchmen [08 Mar 2009|10:12pm]
[ mood | chipper ]
[ music | dogs barking ]

I've never read the Watchmen series nor have I heard of it since it was announced that a movie was coming out. My first actual taste of reading DC comics was the Death of Superman story arc - where superman died and 4 other supermen started coming out (man of steel, superboy etc.). I would borrow my cousin's comics since I was too young to buy my own. After that the only DC comic I ever read was the Identity Crisis story arc - which was pretty darn good. My only other experience of comic books was of the X-Men in various forms and story arcs.

The movie did not at all feel like your usual comic book movie. It wasn't about the effects or the gore or the superpowers (or one's discovery of his superpowers). It was about heroes and their relationship with society - the struggle of the hero and how it sets them apart from the rest of society. Their difference and how that isolates them from the rest of humanity. And the very idea of "who watches the watchmen?" in a world where every single person is savage and violent was quite disturbing and intriguing, much like the JL cartoons. It's all really quite striking, it's like a grown up's version of a comic book story. It's amazing how they deconstruct the idea of the hero and yet find a way to piece that back together and somehow strengthen the idea of the hero - very much like the identity crisis story arc.

Even though it was so good, it still kind of left me wanting. It was only probably because I was expecting something different, wasn't able to see a trailer of it or anything. I didn't realize I was getting into one of the most well written comic book stories ever! I still kinda wanted the coolness factor of the Marvel line. haha. I'm sometimes dense. Anyway, I would recommend that you watch this film only if you're in the mood for it (after all it is 3 hours long!) and adjust your expectations.

PS: People have to learn the difference between Morbid and Gory! My god, that might be you so please check! You might have been using it wrong all these years!!!

Avatar movie! [20 Feb 2009|02:03am]
[ mood | aggravated ]

I haven't written in awhile on here but this just really pisses me off that I had to write it here and get the word out. I'm excited at the prospect of the Avatar movie! I think it's just one of the best Cartoons ever done. But what the fuck are they doing to the movie!? M. Night Shyamalan?! Such a bad director! Plus, he cast white actors to play all the lead characters!? That's just stupid!

Jackson Rathbone (Twilight’s Jasper Hale) is in talks to play Aang’s friend Sokka, a warrior of the South Pole’s Southern Water Tribe, a race of people who can control and manipulate water.

Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls) has been cast as Sokka’s fourteen-year-old sister Katara, the last remaining Waterbender of her entire Tribe.

Pop/R&B singer Jesse McCartney is in talks to play the Fire Nation’s evil prince Zuko. Exiled from the Fire Nation by his father, Zuko is sent to capture the Avatar in order to restore his honor and right to the throne.

Though I heard Jesse McCartney was replaced by the lead guy in Slumdog Millionaire, it still feels like a miscast.

And Aang is supposed to be played by Noah Ringer, whoever that is, but he's white too.

This is really stupid. Anyway, watch this if you wanna do something about it:

Lambing [29 Jan 2009|05:09pm]

I'm trying to get at the root of the lambing. Any ideas out there on why we do it? Other cultures don't seem to do it and they don't particularly get it as well.

Kylie, Estelle, DJs [08 Jan 2009|04:14pm]
[ mood | cold ]
[ music | Mariah Carey - I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time ]

I'm starting to like Kylie. Well, I liked her even before but I'm starting to love her music even more. I've been listening to All I See like there's no tomorrow and I recently discovered Cosmic on her album. It's quite good. A bit sentimental and kinda throws me back to the 80s for some reason. For some reason when I listen to her music I'm also reminded of J. lol Meanwhile, I still love Estelle's Shine. It's such a good album, so soulful. I keep discovering new songs to gush over. Right now, I'm listening to In the Rain and it gets me up and jumping.

Anyway, I'm babbling on about music cause I've been trying to populate my ipod's albums with proper album covers. It's such an ardous task!!! - especially for genres like House, Electro and Progressive House. Though it's been quite fun as I'm discovering that some of these DJs are quite cute. LOL Go Dirty South and Kaskade!!!

I'll provide a few samples so people know what I'm talking about: )

09 [01 Jan 2009|05:58am]
[ mood | amused ]

Rocky once me told me that I'm silly and funny for thinking that things that happen on Christmas day for the first time is special. He said Christmas is just like any other day. And I never really figured out what he meant until this holiday. Well, I guess it's just part of growing up. I was not excited at all at the clock striking 12mn last night for the first time in my 24 years - figured that it's just like any day striking 12. Though there's nothing magical that happens at the turn of the year, the new year at the very least promises change and different things to come. So I think we end up fooling ourselves into having confidence that you can do whatever you want and take on whatever it is that comes your way - which is probably what keeps us moving forward each year. Though it's probably not even real that things get better, the very thought and hope that it will be at the beginning of this year is probably enough to keep pushing on and making things better for yourself. So in meshing reality with blind hope, I greet you all a happy new year! :D Be not nobody. ;)

So because of this I have decided to learn to play the piano. LOL Random, I know. Anyway, if any of you know like somewhere I can get piano lessons or something let me know please! :D

[ mood | sleepy ]

I think over the weekend I fell in love with Hong Kong. I've often wondered what Carrie talks about in SATC about loving New York. I couldn't imagine at the time what that would be like. And now I think I do. :-p

Meanwhile, I bought a PS3. So PS3 games would be a much appreciated gift for christmas. :D RPGs to be precise. :D

Missing . Heroes (may contain spoilers) [26 Nov 2008|03:19pm]
[ mood | freezing ]
[ music | Coldplay - Viva La Vida ]

I don't know if it's just people missing the point about Heroes or it can just be credited to sloppy writing. But I still think the show is doing pretty damn good. I mean in shows that explore the paranormal, how you end up explaining the scientific explanations to why things happen sometimes becomes more important than the actual theme of the episodes. So people now argue that it's become too convoluted with too many elements or plot lines or fucked up explanations. I still think they're doing pretty well to explain things logically and the continuity errors they have are at best forgivable.

I think though that every single TV show is basically the same. An episode or the entire series would always revolve around an idea or theme and work its way on how that would come through. So you have the basic ideas of love, commitment, guilt, existentialism, etc. and the different TV shows are just different mediums, perceptions and interpretations of how to show those through. And it's watching and maybe learning from those different view points that make it interesting. Yes, even reality TV shows, especially the well edited ones. Survivor does this so well.

For example, my favorite scenes in the last two episode of Heroes was the one where Angela tells Arthur to free her because he still loves her and in the latest one, the one where Elle tells Sylar that everyone is trying to make him into something so which will it be boy scout or monster and the other one where Peter and Nathan talk about Peter losing his powers and yet that doesn't rob him from having a purpose. While the action scenes are amazing and the special effects are brilliant, I think those scenes epitomize so much more of what heroes tries to explore. For Angela and Arthur, despite the strength of Arthur's power and how much of a monster he seems to be he is not far from human emotions and still loves his wife and cannot kill her - even though she tried to kill him and it would be so easy for him to do so. (And that episode was so awesome in and of itself on how it explored love and empathy through the different characters - Sylar and Elle, Matt and Daphne, Arthur and Angela, Claire and Peter). For Sylar and Elle, the question of humanity comes into play and how that humanity can be transformed and controlled by other people. The writers play around with that idea so well with the similarities of these two characters. For Peter, the question of being hero and finding your purpose through that one thing that defines who you are and finally losing it. I like the fact that Peter has lost his powers now; it gives so much more room to develop his character and whether being a hero in Heroes means having a cool power or making the right choices.

Anyway, rambling. Just a few thoughts on the show lately. Haven't been posting!!! gosh. been too long so forgive me if most of this is incomprehensible.

[ music | Grey's Song while this part was playing -still need to get the title!!! ]

People are terrible to the people they love sometimes. They're mean. You were both going through a really tough time and you took it out on one another, it isn't fun but it is what people do. Doesn't make you the worst [person] in the world, it just makes you a person who made a mistake.

Growing My Hair: Styling Help [16 Oct 2008|09:41pm]
[ mood | busy ]

I'm currently growing my hair and don't know what to do with it. All I really know is barber's cut and I think that's okay cause I look kiddish/boyish. I just want to maybe try something that'll fit me better - something new.

Now these boys are hot asian boys and people seem to generally agree with that. Just wondering if it's their over all look or just their bodies that make them hot? Can the rice queens reply please. :-p

Any suggestions if I should style my hair like any of these guys? Or do you know of any asian person that looks good that sorta has my same facial features? :-p Just shouting this out there cause I'm really at a loss as to what to do. :-p

Don't murder me for being shallow. Everyone is at some point.

Busy Busy Buzz. [22 Sep 2008|12:34am]
[ mood | amused ]
[ music | The Patriot from HBO ]

Been really busy the last two weeks, I was juggling work with training and organizing the office offsite. The training - I went to work for on Saturday and Sunday last week - it was waaay worth it though. I was the only one without an IT background who took the test and still was the second to finish and my program was working and it fit the specifications that they wanted. Though I'm really still not sure how well I did cause the results have not come out yet. Still feeling so good that I learned all of it though and that I was able to understand it. I enjoyed the whole thing, which I think says a lot. I even went to the office willingly which is something I probably wouldn't have done if I didn't want to do it and learn it as much. I think I may just be in the right field.

The organizing of the offsite was super fun as well though extremely tiring. :S It was a sort of party, games and teambuilding for almost 400 people. I'm not going to say adults because I think we all jumped back a couple of years at the actual event. lol. I was really hoping to go out on Saturday night as well to see my friends and dance my ass off but I was too tired to move from the couch whole day Saturday so I just stayed in and watched the whole 10th season of ANTM. I saw Charl today though, which was good - made my day. lol That being said, it was my first off-site and it was extremely fun! I didn't really expect it to be as much as it turned out. hehe.

Gosh and I have to say one thing though, all the hot guys in HP are ER! I swear. Award to them. Though, there are 3 that are chinese/korean/japanese looking and are extremely cute. And one that's a good dancer and I think that Rocky would especially love. Though I have no idea if he's straight or gay, he may have potential, we shall see. :-p

Sunshine After the Rain [11 Sep 2008|01:45pm]
[ mood | amused ]
[ music | In The Rain - Estelle ]

It's been raining so much lately. I quite love the rain, cool weather and all. Except for the part where it causes heavy traffic. Though I did not get affected by it much seeing as the time I go to work and go home is at odds with rush hour traffic. Thank god for shifting europe into europe time. Anyway, I especially enjoy moments after the rain when the sun just peaks out and clouds are still in the sky but things just seem like they are much much better for some reason. Manila feels a lot cleaner as well right after the rain. :-p (Though it isn't really)

Anyway, this is where I am emotionally. I think I can assuredly say now that I'm quite happy. :D I might even go to Bangkok in October and maybe Singapore by November to celebrate a friend's birthday. But that's still not sure. :D I like the fact that things are going extremely casual with everything in my life, I can just go along and relax and take my time. No pressure. Haaay. Life is right at this moment extremely good. :D And that's mostly due to the weather. :-p

Haven't sat down and watched MTV in a long while! Saw these two videos and thought they were quite cool and different from what's usually on:

The song's pretty funky too. And I like how she does her dance thing.
